Elton John will release his new album, The Diving Board, in September this year.

The new record, John’s 30th studio album, comprises songs written in two session with lomg-term collaborative lyricist Bernie Taupin.

Elton has said the new record will be the “most piano orientated album of my career.”

Speaking to a group of specially selected journalists at The Villaga Studios in LA on Friday (February 22), John said that the T Bone Burnet-Produced record is a mix of gospel, blues, jazz, brass band music and “everything I love about American music”.

He also said it would be his “most adult album” yet.

The exact release date for The Diving Board, which was set to be called Voyeur at one point, is yet to be announced but it is expected to arrive sometime in September.

This summer will see the singer headline Bestival in the Isle Of Wight, and Elton has said he's looking forward to seeing this year's fancy dress theme in action.

The Diving Board is said to be John's most piano orientated album yet
