A small town in Essex came close to booking Beyonce for their annual street carnival - but were shocked when they were asked to stump up £50,000 to book the star.
Organisers of the Maldon festival in Essex were thrilled to receive a response from the 'Single Ladies' superstar's agents confirming her interest in appearing at the small, 2013 event.
Beyonce is set for a number of UK appearances this year, and was seemingly considering adding another when an email reading: "There is a possibility that Beyonce will be available and hopefully can attend your carnival event," was received.
Organisers scheduled a meeting with her management - which was then abandoned after ten minutes when the fee was discussed.
Beyonce's spokesperson later responded to the carnival bosses, saying: "After our conversation it is apparent there is some miscommunication. Regrettably neither the artist nor the promoter will be able to incur the cost of appearance."
"It is unlikely that your carnival event will be able to attract the audience required or have the necessary experience to handle such a large event."

However, there are still plans to find a big name star to headline the Essex event, with boss Robert Slight keen to book a superstar for the show.
"We are really trying to make it bigger," he says, quotes The Mirror. "I think the carnival is so old-fashioned.
"We want to keep it traditional but it needs modernising to attract the younger generation."
