Justin Bieber has apologised to fans who were left angry and disappointed after he took to the O2 stage in London two hours late - and many had to leave the venue to go home.

The concert last night (4 March) was the first of four nights at the O2 Arena and Bieber was supposed to start at 8.30, but he did not take the stage until nearly 10.30pm, when many of his fans had to leave and go home due to the delay.

Bieber has now taken to his Twitter account in order to apologise to his fans. The star wrote in a series of tweets, "since i have been here it hasnt been easy with the press at times but I have loved it.

"so let me say this... last night i was scheduled after 3 opening acts to go on stage at 935 not 830 but because of some technical issues i got on at 10:10..so... i was 40 min late to stage. there is no excuse for that and I apologize for anyone we upset.

"However it was great show and Im proud of that and tonight we will run on time and look forward to putting on an amazing show for everyone in attendance. my relationship with the media is not always easy but im trying.

The 'Baby' singer continued, "Im all about the music and the performance and i respect my fans. i never have any intent to upset or let anyone down. and Im not okay with things being exaggerated. once again sorry for anyone upset. now we have a show to do today and Im gonna focus on the positive and put on a great show tonight here in London."

He finished by adding, "NIGHT 2 at the 02 is gonna be even better. get ready. thanks"

The O2's Twitter account posted updates on the night, writing at 10.36pm, "Justin Bieber is now on stage and apologises for the lateness of his show."

They added at 11.08pm, "Sorry to all the Justin Bieber fans for the lateness of his show tonight. The Tube will still be running when the show finishes."

The concert was supposed to end at 11pm, but continued on to midnight - which means that Bieber is likely set to pay a fine, as the O2 has a curfew of 11pm.

Justin Bieber was late onstage despite partying all weekend

Michelle Christianson from Oxford attended the concert with her 12-year-old daughter Enya, who was apparently in tears as the pair had to leave before the last song.

Michelle told the Evening Standard, "We have to drive back to Oxford now. We have seen little kids leaving before the thing even started. At least we saw most of it, but it’s just terrible to leave early having spent so much money."

One user wrote on Twitter, "Justin Bieber needs to understand he has fans that are really young he can't come on stage like 1 hour and 45 mins late on a school night!"

Tickets for the event started at £57.65, but some fans had paid up to as much as £70 to attend the gig.

Late on stage: 13 other stars who need to get a watch
