Legendary singer Prince has apparently signed up to headline this year's Glastonbury festival.

The star nearly signed up in 2011, but ended up playing Hop Farm instead. Now he looks set to headline Glastonbury 2013, according to the Daily Star, who point out that he is also playing three days at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

2011's event was headlined by U2, Beyonce and Coldplay instead, as Prince took too long to confirm.

Organiser Michael Eavis told the Daily Star two years ago, "I tried to get Prince earlier on. At once point, he was, then he wasn't, then he was.

"It was a question of a bird in the hand. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, if not three in a bush. In the end I went for the bands we have on the bill now, which ain't bad."

Some bands have already been confirmed for this year's festival, such as AlunaGeorge, Disclosure and Rudimental.

Prince could be the latest artist to headline Glastonbury 2013

During a BRIT Awards interview Alt-J also appeared to accidentally comfirm themselves for the festival when the awards host James Corden asked what they were going to be up to this summer.

"Yeah, we're playing Leeds, Reading, Glastonbury. We're playing around Europe as well," the band responded.

Other acts rumoured to be headlining the event include the Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys and Rihanna.
