Outspoken Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has slammed The Spice Girls' 2012 performance at the Olympics closing ceremony, calling their show 'horrifying'.

The nineties girlband were seen whizzing around the Olympic stadium on top of London taxis as they performed their hits. While the show won approval from fans, Meighan, who will perform at the stadium when Kasabian headline Hard Rock Calling on 29 June, was not impressed.

"We were on tour during the Olympics but I saw some bits on telly. There were some horrifying bits, like The Spice Girls. That really didn’t do the place justice," Meighan tells The Sun newspaper.

"That was the most horrifying bit. It was just horrible," he adds. "We’ll be the first band to play the park, so it’s great."

The band were equally unimpressed with this year's BRIT Awards, claiming that the show was 'absolutely awful TV'.

"Everyone knows it," Meighan told BBC Newsbeat. "It was awful from start to finish, and everyone knows it, it was terrible."

"I hope it's the sign for the change and that will mark the end of that period, whatever it was," finished Pizzorno.
