US pop diva Mariah Carey is reportedly in discussions to headline this years Glastonbury festival.

A source for the festival has claimed that playing the Pyramid stage is something the 42 year old American star would 'love to do'.

Carey would be seen as a hugely contraversial choice for the prodiminantly rock based festival. But with British bands Arctic Monkeys and The Rolling Stones heavily rumoured to be confirmed already, the R&B artist would provide a different musical direction.

The source told London's Evening Standard newspaper: "Nothing has been signed yet, but discussions have been opened and both parties seem keen."

This would not be the first time festival organiser Michael Eavis could cause a division among fans. Jay Z's addition as headliner at the 2008 event caused a stir and Oasis star Noel Gallagher declared the hip-hop star was 'wrong' for the festival.

The rapper, however was well received, as was his wife - Beyonce as headliner in 2011, and the Somerset festival has been adding more pop acts in the last few years with Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue and the Scissor Sisters all performing.
