David Bowie's brilliant new album The Next Day is on course to be the fastest selling album of 2013 so far, having sold 66,000 copies on its first day of release.
The album is Bowie's first new release in ten years, since Reality in 2003, and already looks like it could be the fastest selling album of 2013.
According to the Official Charts Company, it had already sold 66,000 after just one day of being on sale - which left it just 5,600 copies behind Biffy Clyro's album Opposites, the current fastest selling album.
The Next Day is also outselling the current number two album, Bon Jovi's What About Now, by almost three to one and is ahead of the official UK album chart number one winner, Bad Blood by Bastille.
The Official Charts Company's Managing Director, Martin Talbot, said in a statement, "Bowie is officially back! The Next Day is a true gift for all Bowie afficionados. It already sounds like a classic Bowie album – and its popularity this week is already showing that the great British public have taken it to their hearts."
The album could be Bowie's first number one record since 1993's Black Tie White Noise, and is the musical icon's 27th studio album.
Nicole Scherzinger could get a number one single with 'Boomerang'
On a slightly different end of the musical spectrum, Nicole Scherzinger looks likely to take the No.1 spot on the singles chart - as she is currently number one in the midweek chart update.
Scherzinger tweeted, "HOLY SCHAMAZEBALLS BATMAN! Just woke to #BOOMerang being #1 on the midweek charts! Thank you so much UK."
