Two employees working at Ultra Music Festival in Miami have been left seriously injured after the collapse of an LED screen.

The two workers were last night (14 March) helping to prepare for the festival to open its doors, when a 7ft mounted LED screen collapsed on stage and injured them.

The festival released a statement saying, "Today (Thursday, March 14) as preparations were being made for this weekend’s Ultra Music Festival, a section of an LED screen fell and injured two workers.

"Fire Rescue was on site so there was a rapid response. Festival organizers are working with, and supporting, authorities as they investigate the details behind the accident."

Structural engineers and fire inspectors are going to investigate the scene and decide whether the stage will be suitable for use during the festival, which starts today and runs until 24 March.

Last year, one fan died and 19 were injured when an advertising tower collapsed at a Linkin Park concert in Cape Town.

Linkin Park, performing at Maxidrom Music Festival earlier this year in Russia.

The gale force winds caused the tower to fall, and a female fan died despite the fact that the advertising hoarding had apparently been certified as safe by structural engineers before the event.

A spokesperson for Cape Town, Kylie Hatton, said at the time that the commanding officer at the operation centre had declared the site safe after they had taken down the branding - so the concert was able to go ahead as planned.
