Hurts star admits falling asleep onstage during gig in Kiev

50% of Hurts fell asleep on stage during a gig in Ukraine, when tiredness overcame Adam Anderson and he took a snooze at the piano.

The band were performing their track 'Unspoken', during which Anderson has a section where is not required to perform. During that brief interlude however, the pianist and guitarist fell asleep due to exhaustion.

"I had a moment in Kiev," said Anderson in an interview with BBC Newsbeat. "We've got this song called 'Unspoken' - it'll disappoint some of our fans, it's a very emotional song but at that moment, I got tired."

"There's a break in the middle where Adam doesn't play. It's just strings, but it must have been that bit," added bandmate Theo Hutchcraft.

"I think you woke me up by slapping your hand on the piano," continued Anderson.

Hurts have enjoyed success in the UK, but their European fanbase is huge. In a recent interview with Gigwise, Anderson discussed their impact on the continent.

"I guess the reaction gets more extreme the further east you go," he told Gigwise. "Germany is obviously our most successful country and we've done some amazing things there. We've played to 60,000 people with just one album. We go to places where other bands don’t go.

"We did a 10-date tour of Russia and played so many cities where they said no English band had ever even been. When you go to places like that, the reaction is quite extreme because they are just so glad that you have come. It’s like they reward you for coming by giving you amazing shows."
