The Strokes have become the latest band to stream their eagerly awaited 2013 album ahead of its official release next week.

David Bowie and Justin Timberlake both did the same, streaming their albums for free for a week or so on iTunes before the official release.

But The Strokes have instead opted for Pitchfork's new music streaming service Pitchfork Advance to give their fans the first taste of the new record.

Comedown Machine is released next week via RCA and is the band's fifth studio album, the first since 2011's Angels.

While Angels saw frontman Julian Casablancas largely detached from his bands mates, recording his parts separately, Comedown Machine reportedly was a group effort.

Bassist Nikolai Fraiture told NME: "We hashed it all out together like the good old days."

The group have already revealed single 'One Way Trigger' and recently unveiled a video for 'All The Time'. The tracks have been met with a somewhat mixed reception.

Pitchfork Advance claims to "showcase an interactive listening experience environment featuring pre-release album streams with dynamic graphics and a host of tools that allows fans to engage with album art, lyrics, credits, track listings, artist info and more while they listen."
