One Direction were pranked by TV hosts Ant & Dec for their new TV series, after being convinced by the television duo that a fan was dying from a severe asthma attack.
Presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly took part in the stunt for TV show Saturday Night Takeaway, and wore prosthetic make-up and wigs so as not to be recognised by the boyband.
Donnelly pretended to be a fan from New Zealand named Jack, with McPartlin pretending he was a New Zealand TV presenter named Ben.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, McPartlin said, "The ruse was that 1D’s biggest fans had flown in to meet them. Dec dressed up as one from New Zealand and I was Ben, a TV host from there. I introduced him to the group - and the meeting didn't go as planned but they fell for it."
Donnelly continued, "I faked an asthma attack. They panicked and I hyperventilated. They called medical emergencies. It was such fun and they fell for it. We did it in Madison Square Garden before Christmas.
"On the 1D tour they met two fans from every nation. We heard the only two who didn't go were from New Zealand and thought, 'This is our way in.' We were all over them."

The episode of Saturday Night Takeaway featuring the trick is set to air on Saturday (23 March). Band member Harry Styles is seen helping Donnelly as the paramedics arrive.
One Direction are currently on their Take Me Home world tour. Rod Stewart recently gave the band advice, telling The Sun, "I’d recommend a good lawyer and good people to look after them."
