Dave Grohl has revealed how he once planned to recruit PJ Harvey to front Nirvana to recorded a cover of their classic track 'Milk It', but which sadly never came to be.
The former bandmates came together again for the Sound City sound track Real to Reel, and it was suggested that double Mercury Prize winner PJ Harvey appear and sing a Nirvana song, but she wasn't able to make it.
"Someone came up with the idea of doing a Nirvana song with PJ Harvey. Kurt loved her and we love her and we thought 'Yeah, what would be do?" he told NME.
"I said, 'God, what if we were to do 'Milk It' from In Utero with Polly singing.'
"We all looked at each other like, 'Whoa, that would be amazing.' And then she couldn't do it!"
But he added that he's always been wary about playing Nirvana songs live since Cobain's suicide in 1994, given the legendary musical status they've reached since his death.

"It's sacred ground," Grohl explained. "If we were ever going to do something like that it would have to be right, becuase you want to pay tribute. There's a reason Foo Fighters don't do Nirvana songs, and it's a good reason."
When McCartney joined Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic and guitarist Pat Smear in Decemeber they played a new song they'd written with the former Beatle rather than tackle a Nirvana cover.
