Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis has taken to his Twitter account to clarify his comments about not wanting to see the Stone Roses headlining festivals.

Earlier this week, Philippakis told the Daily Star that 'old bands' should not be able to headline festivals, as it means that new bands do not get a chance.

However, Philippakis went on to specifically reference the Stone Roses, saying, "You get people in their late 30s going to festivals, in their dungarees with a couple of kids, wanting to relive their adolescence, pretending they're baggy again by watching The Stone Roses.

"They aren't in touch with what's going on now. I'm bored of seeing some dude from the 90s headline, it means nothing to me."

On his Twitter account, Philippakis clarified his comments. "Ok, for the last time we have nothing but respect & love for the Stone Roses," he said.

"I was trying to make a general point about Festivals, which has got contorted. I think think i mmmmmaybe overstepped the mark with the dungaree comment but yr mad in the head if you think there is no effect on young bands if they're having to contend with heritage acts forever."

He finished on a positive note, saying, "ok, end of. i'm gonna go eat waffles."

In the Daily Star interview, Philippakis also spoke about Foals' plans for their live show at Latitude festival, insisting that it won't be boring.

"We'll have some lasers - but it's a rock show," Philippakis said. "We're not going to hand out free sweets and have a brass band play with us just because we're headlining."
