A Welsh singer and lecturer has found fame in the far east after performing traditional communist songs on China's Got Talent.
30-year-old Welsh singer Iain Inglis reached the final 16 on the show after working in the country as a lecturer. However, he claims he was removed from the show due to potential political concerns over a Welshman singing traditional communist songs on the show.
"As far as I knew, I was through to the final round," Mr Inglis said in an interview with WalesOnline. "But the day before I was due to perform, I got a phone call saying Bureau of Broadcasting has said I wasn't able to go on.
"There was no real reason given – perhaps they weren’t very keen on having a foreigner singing songs about communism," he added.
"Of course, I was very disappointed, but that’s just how it is. I wasn’t very surprised."
What would Simon say? Communist songs aren't common on the UK show
Despite not making the show finals, Inglis is now enjoying a new career as a performer in China, and is now charging up to £5,000 per performance.
"There aren’t many foreigners so it’s hard to go unnoticed," he continues. "When you have a tall, white foreigner from Wales who is singing songs about communism in Chinese – well, they seem to find it quite hilarious.”
