At the risk of sounding bitter, the boys from 5ive have suggested that One Direction are only as big as they are because of social media, a tool that wasn't available when 5ive were first around.

In a web chat with Heat readers, the group remarked that they had it harder when they were first around, and that One Direction owe their popularity to sites lke Facebook and Twitter.

"We didn't have social media back in the day, we didn't have Twitter, Facebook, web chats, nothing - we just turned up to places," Scott pointed out.

"Where as now you can be in the room straight away with just one tweet."

Bandmate Sean then added, "Would One Direction be as big in America without Twitter that's the question?"

"No. They. Wouldn't," Scott answered.

"I'm not sure either," Sean agreed.

5ive recently reformed for ITV2's The Big Reunion

"We had to be there didn't we? If we weren't there we weren't 'there'," Sean added.

While One Direction have undeniably done well thanks to social media, 5ive's comments might well see them feeling the full force of the group's Twitter's might.
