Noel Gallagher has compared his Damon Albarn duet to John Lennon collaborating with Eric Clapton, saying the pair's duet was 'great for fans'.

The former rivals put aside all former Britpop rivalry for the Teenage Cancer Trust gig (23 March, 2013) and performed Blur's classic hit, 'Tender' at London's Royal Albert Hall. Gallagher claims that it was a real 'I was there' moment in modern music.

"I think it's great for music fans. It's like when you hear about John Lennon playing with Eric Clapton or...well I don't know what the equivalent is," said Noel to NME after the show. "It won't change anybody's life but people could say they were there."

Gallagher also spoke highly of the track they performed, saying that not only does he love the song, but also finds it easy to play.

"I suggested that we do 'Tender' for various reasons. It's a fucking great song. It's a piece of piss to play on guitar. It's got four chords in it. And more importantly the crowd loves it," he added.

Is Damon Albarn the Clapton to Gallagher's Lennon - or the other way around?

The duet wasn't loved by all however, with bitter brother Liam hitting out at the pair's performance on Twitter.

"Don’t know what’s worse RKID sipping champagne with a war criminal or them backing vocals you’ve just done for BLUE ! LG x", Liam tweeted on 25 March, two days after the gig. He was referencing Noel's 2007 visit to Downing Street to visit Tony Blair and deliberately named Albarn's band as 'Blue' instead of 'Blur'.
