Chris Brown has announced that his forthcoming studio album 'pays homage to Michael Jackson' as well as capturing the 'classic essence of R&B'.
The singer is set to release his sixth album later this year and has titled that new LP, X.
Brown told Rolling Stone: "Making X, I found out who I am. This album has a lot of substance, from the subject matter and the situations to how it deals with love.
"The record pays homage to the Stevie Wonders, the Michael Jacksons, the Sam Cookes: I wanted to put that classic essence of R&B and soul with the new age of music now.
"It's really derived from personal experiences. Then again, I always like mixing reality with art.
"I tried to stay away from the Euro beats, and not go totally pop. Instead, I wanted to take the Quincy Jones approach."

Brown's new album also looks set to feature his on-off girlfriend and pop superstar Rihanna as the pair have recorded a track called 'Put It Up', but Brown admits it may not make the final cut.
He said: "I wrote a song for her called 'Put It Up' that we did together. It's still in the pot of songs we have to pick from.
"It may or may not make it, but you know, because she's already on it, it's a strong possibility."
Speaking of the pair's rollercoaster relationship, Brown told Ryan Seacrest's radio show recently: "I just tried my best to be the best man I could be over the years and just show her how remorseful and sorry [for assualting Rihanna] I was for the incident."
"That time was probably the worst part of my life. Being at that young age I can tell you I was arrogant and definitely hotheaded."
