Coldplay's second album, their 2002 release A Rush Of Blood To The Head, has been named the best album of all time by a new poll of Radio 2 listeners.
The 2002 record topped the poll, beating Pink Floyd and Radiohead to come out on top. It was announced as the winner on Radio 2 on Monday by DJ Jo Whiley, after a countdown of the favourites.
The poll was held as part of the recent BBC series The Golden Age of the Album, and had some surprising results. Keane's Hopes And Fears came in second, followed by Duran Duran's Rio at third.
The top five was rounded out by Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon and Dido's No Angel.
Jeff Smith, head of music at Radio 2, said, "With albums ranging from Sinatra in the 50s to Emeli Sande in the last year, the range of eras and genres exhibited by the chart is typical of the breadth of Radio 2 and its distinctive music policy."
Coldplay are apparently a firm favourite with Radio 2 listeners
He continued, "Musicians such as Coldplay and Dido have struck a chord with listeners and are in good company in the Top 10 alongside legendary bands like The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, whose appeal remains undiminished after all these years."
