David Bowie's The Next Day album is the favourite for this year's Mercury Music Prize - despite us only being three months into 2013 and the annual award being another seven months away.
Early odds have been released by Paddy Power, which names Bowie with odds of just 7/2, followed by Foals, as hot favourite to win this year's award. Other popular picks include Opposites by Biffy Clyro and The Wolf's Law by The Joy Formidable, while as-yet unreleased albums by Laura Marling, Chvrches and Goldfrapp also make the list.

Will The Next Day win the Mercury Music Prize in 2013?
Speaking of the odds, a spokesperson for Paddy Power stated: "While the daffodils may not yet be out, Bowie has bloomed as the early hot favourite to land the Mercury. Never before have we seen so much money so early on – clearly the punters know something we don’t."
Nominations for the Mercury Music Prize 2013 are due to be announced on 10 September 2013.
