Jack White's ex-wife Karen Elson has discussed her break up from the Blunderbus star, claiming that the end of their relationship was tough, but that the two will remain close.
The couple, who have two children together, split in 2011, and Elson has now discussed the duo's break-up, and reveals how she and the White Stripes star are determined to stay friends - no matter the problems this may cause.
"You have a responsibility to your children. It's not like splitting up with a boyfriend in your twenties," says Elson in an interview with Harper's Bazaar. "You are breaking up with a whole life. It's not an easy process. But you've got to be friends, there is no choice. I am the product of a divorced family so I felt a responsibility to make that happen...
"Jack is always going to be in my life and I in his. But, of course, being close can create problems for others. It's not particularly easy for the new people who want to go out with us to know that we are still good friends."

As well as splitting from Elson, in recent years White has separated from music projects The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, but revealed in a tabloid interview that his solo career was not planned.
He told The Sun newspaper, "I always said to myself, 'I've got the rest of my life to make solo records'. It's the easy way out, the standard showbiz thing to do."
"If I look back and see that I got the best engineers, that someone mixed the record for me, that it was just a bunch of people playing the parts, I couldn't live with throwing my name on top of it.
"But now if someone says, 'I really love that song, Jack', I can enjoy the compliment because I know the conditions under which it was made."
