A report in The Sun claims former Wham! star George Michael has returned to the UK after spending two months in an Australian rehab centre.

The singer was allegedly paying £27,000 per week to stay at the clinic to be treated for emotional anxiety among other personal problems.

Meanwhile, Michael's partner Fadi Fawaz moved to dispell rumours that he had been staying with the star at the luxury facility, claiming he was in Australia to visit his mother in Queensland.

This is the latest shattering event for the pop icon after ignoring doctor's pleas to abstain from performing and rest after he nearly lost his life battling pneumonia in 2011.

In September the singer pulled out of his Australian tour claiming that 'major anxiety' had ruled him out of performing. Michael released a statement saying: "By the way of explanation all I can say at this time is that since last year's illness I have tried in vain to work my way through the trauma that the doctors who saved my life warned me I would experience."

The 'Faith' singer admitted how he "seriously underestimated" how traumatic the after effects of his illness would be and thought that playing gigs would be solace enough.

However, the 49 year old claims: "I was wrong to think I could work my way through the major anxiety that has plagued me since I left Austria last December."
