Adele's tear-jerking 'Someone Like You' is the most downloaded track in the UK of all time, after digital sales this week passed the one billion mark, with record breaking single sales recorded in 2013.
The Official Charts Company have announced the sales milestone, revealing that an average of 500,000 singles have been downloaded a day in 2013. The most downloaded track of all time in the UK is Adele's 'Someone Like You', taken from her all-conquering 2011 album, 21. The track has been downloaded 1.46million times since its release, and Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera's 'Moves Like Jagger' is the second best selling, having shifted an impressive 1.4million.
Further big sellers making up the Top 5 most downloaded are Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know', Black Eyed Peas' 'I Gotta Feeling' and 'We Found Love' by Rihanna and Calvin Harris.
"The explosion in download sales over the past nine years means we are genuinely now living in the digital music age – with Adele as our queen!" says Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company.
"Over the nine years of legitimate digital music, more than 16 new tracks have sold 1 million copies, which emphasises just how popular digital music is in the modern age."
