There was a lot of hype surrounding the revival of guitar music and it left a lot of guessing as to which bands would lead the rock revolution in 2013.

However, the original hotly tipped bands such as Palma Violets and Peace seemed to have been overtaken by the impressive chart positions that have been achieved by other guitar acts so far this year.

Bands like The 1975 have enjoyed almost immediate mainstream success whilst the older acts such as Foals and Biffy Clyro have scored their biggest selling records to date in 2013.

So whilst the guitar band revival is still well and truly on, its the revivalists themselves that have taken us by surprise.
