Frank Ocean has been named among the most influential gay icons in the world in a new countdown by US publication, Out Magazine.
Ocean and comedienne Ellen Degeneres are joined by broadcaster Anderson Cooper, Glee's creator Ryan Murphy and actor Neil Patrick Harris on the annual Power List compiled by editors at gay publication Out Magazine. Ocean placed at No.10 on the list, the highest placing for a musician on the list.
The top 50 list also included designer Marc Jacobs and actress Jane Lynch, but the top spot was claimed by Apple Inc. boss Tim Cook, Steve Jobs' successor.
Cook also took the No. 1 spot in last year's list.
Frank Ocean came out as bi-sexual last year when he revealed via a blog post that his first love as in fact a man.
His boldness shock the hip hop community, which has deep rooted traditions of homophobia and discrimination burried within it, and has lead to progressive debate and discourse on gay people in the music industry.
Ocean has won both a Grammy and BRIT award this year
Ocean's fellow Odd Future member Tyler, The Creator took the opportunity to dispell suggestions of his own homophobia on his new album Wolf, remarking that people calling him anti-gay are overlooking his close relationship with the 'Novacane' singer.
Rapper-cum-reggae singer Snoop Lion recently said he wasn't sure if rap music would ever fully accept a gay rapper, saying Ocean's case was different because he's a singer.
