The White House has been forced to respond to Jay-Z's recent track 'Open Letter', denying suggestions that Obama had personally cleared Mr and Mrs Carter to visit Cuba.

The pair travelled to Cuba to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary, but the US has a standing embargo on the country preventing its citizen's from travelling to the island purely for tourism.

On the track Jay-Z raps: "I turned Havana into Atlanta... Boy from the hood/I got White House clearance.. Obama said 'Chill you gonna get me impeached/you don't need this s**t anyway, chill with me on the beach'."

But when questioned by Politico reporter Donovan Slack a White House spokesman denied that any clearance came from the top, Billboard reports.

"I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury... because Treasury offers and gives licenses for travel, as you know, and the White House has nothing to do with it," press secretary Jay Carney said.

"I am absolutely saying that the White House, from the President on down, had nothing to do with anybody's travel to Cuba, that is something the Treasury handles.

"It's a song, Donovan," he added. "The President did not communicate with Jay-Z over this trip."

Several members of Congress had questioned the power couple's trip to Cuba, suggesting they didn't have the proper license.

Although their trip was in fact legal, it was still investigated.
