Coachella 2013 kicked off last night (Friday April 12) and saw huge headline performances from British acts Blur and the Stone Roses as well as the most exciting Daft Punk teaser video yet.

20 years after they first toured America, Blur followed Modest Mouse and Yeah Yeah Yeahs onto the main stage and thrilled the California festival with a hits-filled set including 'Girls & Boys', 'Song 2', and 'This Is Low' before British actor Phil Daniels joined them onstage for a rendition of 'Parklife'.

Blur frontman, Damon Albarn was clearly glad to be away from the glum UK grey skies, telling the crowd, "A lot of our songs have been informed by our bad weather ... it's very nice to enjoy your sunshine."

The Stone Roses kept the first night of the festival going with their first US appearance since reforming and played until past midnight as they thrilled the crowd with hits such as 'Fools Gold' and 'I Wanna Be Adored'.

Another highlight from Coachella's first day has to be the short video clip of Daft Punk's track 'Get Lucky' which is yet to be heard in full.  The 1.42 minute video features the tracks collaborators Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers with the French duo in the alongside them.

The clip was shown prior to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs set and had the Coachella festival-goers whooping and shouting in excitement. US label Neon Gold have since confirmed on Twitter that Daft Punk members Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem Christo were in attendence at the premiere.

Other highlights of the first day included performances from Jake Bugg, Of Monsters and Men and Nick Cave's Grinderman.

Coachella 2013 is still set to see appearances from Sigur Ros, Phoenix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Vampire Weekend and legendary rap collective Wu Tang Clan.
