Red Hot Chili Peppers closed out the first weekend of Coachella festival in California last night (14 April).

The band played a set filled with their greatest hits - including 'Dani California', 'Californication', 'Give It Away', 'By The Way' and 'Under The Bridge' - and, unlike previous headliners of the festival, did not have a special guest during their performance.

The Chili Peppers reportedly opened with 'Monarchy of Roses' from their latest album I'm With You, and also played a cover of Stevie Wonder's 'Higher Ground'. Although singer Anthony Kiedis struggled with a verse during 'Otherside', the set ran smoothly despite the worry of a sand storm.

Before their performance of 'Californication', bassist Flea shouted at the audience, "I love you California to the core of my f**king spleen!"

Before the Chilis' performance, hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan performed as part of a celebration of their 20th anniversary, and played hits 'Bring da Ruckus' and 'Clan in da Front', among others.

Method Man, a member of the collective, said earlier, "No disrespect, but we've come here to steal the show."

The Rza later told the audience during their performance, "If you feel the Wu-Tang spirit in your heart, put your W's up."
