When pop meets politics: it never ever ends well

Business Secretary Vince Cable seemed to speak out about One Direction's salaries this week - and not their music, oddly enough - apparently saying "much of it is downright insensitive and grossly immoral."

He did, however, retract his comments and Cable said instead that he'd simply misheard. Still, he isn't the first politician to embarrass himself when it comes to matters of music. While musicians are often hit or miss when it comes to speaking about politics, politicians are more often just 'miss' when it comes to speaking about music.

David Cameron, in particular, seems to be a repeat offender - and we didn't even include all of his incidents. Did he really have to appear in a pop band's music video? Or prove his indie knowledge during a debate in the House of Commons?

Take a look through our gallery to find out exactly when politics and music shouldn't mix...
