Katy Perry has revealed that she is halfway through recording her third album, and says she won't feel any pressure until she gives herself a release date to stick to.

The pop star spoke of the follow-up to her smash hit album Teenage Dream on Thursday at a session at ASCAP's I Create Music Expo, where she answered questions on her new record and the ups and downs of her musical career.

She revealed that she had been working with many of the same songwriting partners as she did for her last record, including Max Martin, Dr. Luke and Greg Wells.

She explained how Wells "allows me to vomit words. Not that I can't find that with others but he just lets me [makes retching sounds].

"Max and Luke push me the most. As a team we have certain strengths. With Max, it's melody choices, Luke is production and I'm topline and melody."

Perry has also been working on new songs with Sia and continues to work with Bonnie McKee, who worked with her on 'California Gurls'.

"Bonnie and I argue [like] we're in the ring fighting for the best lyric. We presented Teenage Dream three times [before it was recorded]."

But although she's a fairly long way through the recording process, she explained that she wouldn't begin to feel any pressure until she gave herself a deadline.

Katy Perry was enjoying the sun at Coachella last weekend

"When I put myself on a timeline, when I tell the record company when I want to release the album, that's when the race starts," she says. "That's when I put pressure on myself."

The singer is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with hair care company GHD who claim that her declining popularity in Europe is the cause of an advertising campaign flop.
