Will.i.am has spoken out in defense of Justin Bieber after the pop star drew yet more criticism recently for ill-advised comments on Anne Frank.
Bieber came under fire recently after visiting the Anne Frank museum and remarking that he wonder whether the diary writer would’ve ‘been a Belieber’.
But Will.i.am, who recently released his collaboration with Bieber '#thatPOWER', says that the pop star could’ve been doing far worse things in Amsterdam.
Speaking to The Sun he said: “We are like, hey, that guy went to freaking Amsterdam and went to see Anne Frank’s museum and said, ‘I wonder if she would’ve been a Belieber’.
“The dude was in freaking Amsterdam. He could get sex because it’s legal, he could get drugs because it’s legal, and now we’re making a hoopla because he said ‘I wonder if Anne Frank was a Belieber?’
“He went to a museum! If you go to Amsterdam you are going to see some crazy freaking s**t, you are going to see some titties, there is a lot of s**t to do in Amsterdam but he chose to go to Anne Frank’s house. The guy is alright.”
Will.i.am also praised Bieber’s talents and maturity, saying it must be hard growing up in the spotlight.
“Justin in a great talent. Of all the people I have worked with over the past five years he is one of the best.
Bieber was recently performing in Norway, where Selena Gomez visited him
“I remember when I was 19, it was pretty tough. The difference between me and him is that I got to grow up in private, he is growing up in front of everybody.”
He added: “He is handling everything pretty sanely. Anyone else would go insane under that freaking microscope of scrutiny and judgement.”
