3 Doors Down bassist Robert Todd Harrell has been charged with vehicular homicide after being involved with a crash on Interstate 40 in the US.

According to officers, the 41 year old was driving west-bound on the Interstate 40 at high speed, when his car clipped a Ford pick-up and sent it out of control. The pick-up, which was being driven by Paul Howard Shoulders Jr, struck a guardrail, travelled down an embankment and overturned.

Shoulders, 47, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, investigators said. He was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. According to police, the pick-up truck struck the remaining wall and stopped about a quarter of a mile away.

Officers went on to say that Harrell appeared to be under the influence, and he acknowledged that he had drunk some hard cider and and taken prescription Lortab and Xanax.

He was also charged with bringing controlled substances into the jail, as officers found a plastic bag in his sock that contained 8 Xanax pills, 24 Oxycodone pills and 4 Oxymorphone pills.
