Justin Bieber has apparently decided that instead of rescuing his pet monkey from German quarantine, he will give it to a zoo instead.
Mally the capuchin monkey is currently in an animal clinic after it was seized by customs officials in Munich last month, when Bieber tried to smuggle it into Germany. The star had no paperwork or health certificates and Mally was only nine weeks old, when capuchins are usually removed from their mothers after at least a year.
The 'Beauty and a Beat' singer was given four weeks to collect Mally, who has been described as 'traumatised' for being taken away from its family at such a young age. However, Bieber apparently doesn't want the monkey back. German officials have given Bieber until 17 May to either collect the monkey, or submit a letter saying he officially no longer wants Mally.
It seems Bieber has already made up his mind, as officials say that his management team contacted them asking if Mally could be given to a 'safe and sheltered place, or a zoo'.
Franz Böhmer, of the Bonn Federal Office for Nature Conservation, said, "So far no papers for the monkey of Justin Bieber have been submitted. If he submits a written disclaimer, we can accommodate Mally in a welfare family group in a zoo."
Justin Bieber has until next month to make a decision about Mally
The animal centre boss, Karl Heinz Joachim, said, "We'll appeal to the star to do the decent thing and let the monkey be free for adoption. There are a great many suitable places that have offered to take Mally and integrate him with their own capuchin monkeys where he would be much more happy with his own kind.
"A baby monkey is not something suitable to be on a world tour even if he is travelling by private jet. He should be out in the wild climbing trees and learning from other monkeys if he isn't to have serious psychological problems later in life."
