David Beckham has revealed he was more interested in the Manchester indie scene than he was pulling women in his Manchester United heyday, speaking of his love for the city's Britpop scene in the nineties.
The footballing superstar claims that the social lives enjoyed by his teammates left him cold, and that he instead preferred to spend time at Manchester's iconic Hacienda club, enjoying music by the likes of The Stone Roses.
"It was the time of the Haçienda club – there were so many great things happening there at that time," he says in an interview with Man About Town magazine. "I wasn’t a clubby person. I haven’t been a big clubby person my whole life, you know, even at a very young age, which I think has helped me throughout my career."
"I’ve nothing against going out and having a good time, but I think, for me it was all about Manchester United... and, of course, The Stone Roses," he adds. "Apart from the music, all I was interested in was playing for Manchester United. It was all I wanted in my life."

David Beckham has previously been credited with playing a key role in The Stone Roses reunion, with his influence helped persuade the band to put aside their differences and pick up tools once more.
"Ian and Mani are Reds through and through so they all knew each other a bit back in the day," said a source to The Sun newspaper in 2011. "David heard there was a chance the ice was thawing between Ian and guitarist John Squire and he got involved.
"He told Mani in no uncertain terms he simply had to get the band back together."
