Laura Marling won't be tuning in to see whether Sharon Osbourne returns to the judging panel of this year's X Factor, slamming the show as an 'awful part of our society'.
The award-winning star, who is currently working on music for a new theatre production of As You Like It (literally the opposite end of the entertainment spectrum from X Factor), criticised the show for encouraging youngsters to pursue fame.
"They are just horrible," she told Radio 4's Today Programme in an interview this week (24 April 2013). "It’s an awful part of our society. It’s teaching the wrong thing, I think, teaching that you want fame. It’s not fame that you want its satisfaction, which is a very different thing, but they sometimes go hand in hand. It makes me sad."
Marling is more positive about her work on the new theatre adaptation of the Bard's work, despite feeling she is not upbeat enough to truly do the classic comedy justice.
"I’m not really known for my lightheartedness," she said. "My natural inclination is more melancholic and quite…not morose, that’s too much, but I had to find a balance."
Excited for Sharon Osbourne's return to X Factor? Laura Marling certainly isn't
Marling also admits that she has no real knowledge of theatre, as she never finished school, claiming that she was 'daunted' by the new projects.
Laura Marling releases her fourth studio album, Once I Was An Eagle, on 27 May, 2013.
