Elton John has said that his long-running feud with Madonna could finally be over.

Last August, Elton hit out at Madonna, labelling her a 'nightmare' and saying that her career was over - as well as making a derogatory comment calling her a 'c**t'.

According to The Sun, he said, "Why is she such a nightmare? Sorry, her career is over. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn't happen to a bigger c***." He also said that she looks like a 'fairground stripper'.

Still, it seems that bygones could be bygones now, as he has told Extra that he apologised for the comments and even bought her dinner.

"We were in a restaurant in France in the summertime," Elton explained. "She came in, and I sent over a note. She was very gracious. I apologised profusely because what I said should never have appeared in public. She accepted our apology, and then we bought her dinner.

"She was fantastic. She was just like, 'Okay, let's get a move on'."

David Furnish, Elton's civil partner, added, "We don't believe in putting negativity out in the world, both of us were embarrassed when all that stuff came out."

However, it wasn't the first time that Elton insulted Madonna, as he previously took offence at her 2012 Golden Globes win. When her song 'Masterpiece' pipped John's 'Hello Hello' to an award, he reportedly wrote on Facebook: "Madonna. Best song???? F--k off!!!"

He later added, "Thank you for all your comments and support. Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is."
