Radio One breakfast show host Nick Grimshaw has revealed how he once applied to the station for work experience as a youngster - but was rejected by the broadcaster.
The presenter, who now holds one of the most coveted slots on British radio, has revealed how he applied to the station during his student days, and said how he was 'so sad' when his application was rejected.
"My first ever rejection was from Radio One, funnily enough," Grimshaw tells The Sun newspaper. "I wrote to ask for work experience and they wrote me a letter saying no. I remember being so sad, I moped around the house for ages."
The rejection came 13 years before he took over from Chris Moyles to host the show, but Grimshaw also revealed that he had previous experience of early morning radio work - having presented a dawn show while a student.
"It was an early morning show and all the students were still in bed so nobody listened to it! We lasted for about three days. It was fun, though," he added. "I’ve still got the tape somewhere. I should play it on the show sometime.
Nick Grimshaw is currently presenting his Breakfast Show in schools across the UK
Grimshaw is currently on tour across the UK with the Radio One breakfast show, where Union J performed a cover version of Bastille's brfeakthrough hit 'Pompeii'. The cover version didn't go down so well, however, with many fans of the original complaining that they sung incorrect lyrics to the song.
