Vampire Weekend have admitted that when it comes to making music, they never feel as though it's easy.

Although the band are happy with their latest album, Modern Vampires of the City, they've also pointed out that at times they felt frustrated and struggled to make it.

Speaking to Digital Spy, bassist Chris Baio said, "There are points where you're hitting your head against the wall. It doesn't feel easy, and if something sounds too much like something we've already done, we instantly discard it and get frustrated by it. Easy isn't the word I'd use!"

However, keyboardist/guitarist Rostam Batmanglij explained that it wasn't all bad, saying, "We kept a pretty high standard and if anything wasn't good enough, we had to leave it by the wayside. We had to do that more so than ever before.

"But ultimately, we knew when we started a good song. It wasn't a source of concern or worry."

They also spoke about the new album's connection to film, as it encompasses big themes such as death, love and religion.

"There are definitely connections to film," Batmanglij said. "All of us love film, maybe as much as music. Some of the sounds I've used on the album are from a film-scoring project I had.

"If every song is a scene, you decide what order to put them in to satisfy the logic of every scene, but it wasn't planned the way that a narrative script is planned."
