Daft Punk have promised fans that they will never remove their helmets in public, and claim they would never use actors to replace them at live shows.

The French duo - with the real names Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo - like being able to lead normal lives and are unidentifiable without their robotic helmets.

"It is hard to tell what would've happened for us without the anonymity. We have no regrets on that subject," the pair told French magazine Rock N Folk. "We have a normal life. We created those robot personas. We see the next generation appropriating it and it pleases us."

The 'Get Lucky' hitmakers continued, "Last year, the robots made an Adidas ad with the Star Wars robots. Then the robots were in a Simpsons episode. To achieve mixing Ziggy Bolan and Star Wars and integrate pop culture while staying anonymous, it was fun. We both have a superhero ego."

Daft Punk also admitted that it would be possible for them to watch one of their shows from the audience, if they allowed actors to wear the robot costumes and perform on stage. However, they have no plans of doing that any time soon.

Daft Punk appeared on an episode of The Simpsons this year

"'It would be possible [to let actors take over]," they said. "But we have too much fun through concerts, it would be dumb to not be acclaimed by 20,000 people!"

The robots look set to stay at No. 1 in the UK charts this week, as they are currently outselling rivals Rudimental by two copies to one.
