The Rolling Stones embarked on their 50 and Counting tour last night (May 3) as they kicked of their 2013 tour in style with a sold-out show at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

No Doubt star Gwen Stefani joined the legendary rockers onstage wearing a Rolling Stones 'Lips' vest and performed Stones' hit 'Wild Horses', singing alongside Mick Jagger.

The band hit the LA stage at 9pm and played a two-hour, hit-packed set which included Stones classics such as 'Satisfaction', Brown Sugar' and 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'.

Jagger gave a hugely energetic performance and shared several jokes with the crowd as he apologised for their gig having to be shift from May 2 to May 3 due to basketball team LA Lakers who usually play at the same venue.

He told the audience: "It's either us or the Lakers, so now you got us. It doesn't matter to Jack Nicholson, because he was coming to both of them,” he added, pointing out the US actor in the crowd.

The 23-song set also included 'Emotional Rescue' which hadn't been performed live since its release in 1980 as well as Beggars Banquet track 'Factory Girl' which saw Jagger play acoustic guitar.

Jagger, Ronnie Wood, Keith Richard and Charlie Watts were also joined by country singer Keith Urban during the show who joined the band to play 'Respectable' to the delight of the LA crowd which included the likes of David Hasselhoff, Pierce Brosnan and Muse drummer Dom Howard.

The Rolling Stones warmed up for the upcoming tour with a secret show at LA’s Echoplex last week (April 27), giving fans just an hour’s notice that tickets were on sale.

The band were joined by former guitarist Mick Taylor, who has said he hopes to be involved with their Glastonbury headline slot, as well as other guests Darryl Jones, Chuck Leavell, Lisa Fischer and Bobby Keys.
