Blur have had more 'last' gigs than most bands, and during a recent string of shows in the far east Damon Albarn appeared to suggest that the band might be working on new material at last.
When they first got back on stage together the band were quick to dismiss suggestions that it was a full reunion and said they would not be working on new material, but Albarn's on-stage comments in Hong Kong seem to suggest that's changed.
"We were supposed to be playing in Japan next week," the singer told the audience.
"Due to unforseen circumstances we were unable to go there, although we will go there at some point. So we have a week in Hong Kong, and we thought it would be a good time to try to record another record, so we're going to make one here in Hong Kong."
Albarn didn't explain if 'record' meant a single or an album, but the idea of the band recording an entire album during a week off seems a little far fetched. It does seem the band are ready to get back to writing new music together.
Last summer they wrote 'Under The Westway' especially for their performance at the Olympics Closing Ceremony.
Are Blur ready to record a new album?
If Albarn does mean they're ready to put together a new album it would be their first since 2003's Think Tank, which was finished in the midst of guitarist Graham Coxon's departure from the band.
They recently appeared at Coachella festival, and for the second week of the festival they were bumped up the bill to above The Stone Roses after the Mancunians failed to draw a big enough crowd.
