Six HMV stores in Ireland could be re-opened following negotiations with restructuring firm Hilco.

Ireland previously had 16 HMV stores but they were shut down after the high-street brand had to enter administration in January earlier this year. Now it seems that HMV could be re-opening in six locations.

According to the Irish Times, Declan Stone of Colliers International confirmed that the company is planning to open up to six stores and continued to say that he is currently in talks with landlords in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick.

HMV were apparently £20million in debt at the time of their closure - with financial website This Is Money saying they owed the taxman more than £20m and owed their bankers £109m.

Documents which were filed with Companies House also showed that one of the main trading companies - HMV Music Limited - owed £53.3million to other creditors.

Ireland could see six HMV stores reopened in the future

Earlier this year, HMV closed a further 37 UK stores which meant a loss of 464 jobs.

According to the BBC, Nick Edwards, one of the joint administrators, said, "This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of the restructured business continuing as a going concern.

"We are extremely grateful to the staff for their continued strong support and commitment during an understandably difficult period."
