David Bowie has been making headlines this week with his music video for latest single, 'The Next Day'. Crammed full of religious imagery - such as priests, saints and stigmata - the clip has been blasted by Catholic organisations who labelled it 'a mess'.
Stars have always courted controversy through religious imagery, though, and Bowie certainly isn't the first artist to do so. From flaming crosses in videos to the stars being depicted as Jesus to just simple offhand comments, it's surprisingly easy to turn the Catholic League against them.
While some artists seem to be taking a more intentional route - after all, turning up at the Grammys with a man dressed as the Pope isn't exactly subtle - some stars seem to be genuinely confused at the outrage brought upon them.
