Yoko Ono has said that she thinks being a Beatles' wife is the 'most difficult thing to be' - even harder than being a politician's wife.

John Lennon's widow was speaking on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, in order to promote the upcoming Meltdown Festival which she has curated, and which takes place at the Southbank Centre in June.

She was speaking about her relationship with John Lennon and whether she found it difficult, and responded, "Yes, that's why I have so much respect and love for the other Beatles' wives.

"It's the most difficult thing to be. I think it's more difficult than being a politician's wife, because it's endless. We have a position that is endless."

Yoko also spoke about comments that Paul McCartney made last October when he said that fans should stop blaming her for the break-up of the band.

She said, "He was very sweet to say that, and he probably needed closure to say that. That's why he couldn't say that until now.

"He knew me - we knew each other for 30, 40 years or something - but there was no way to say anything like that because people just liked the idea that we were fighting like crazy in a boxing ring."
