Nicki Minaj will be leaving talent show American Idol, after just one season as a judge, claim US sources for the show.

The ‘Starships’ singer joined the show in 2012, and is reportedly departing at the end of the current series to focus on her next album and forthcoming touring commitments.

Minaj, 30 is not the first judge to leave the show this season, as Randy Jackson announced his departure after 11 years and 12 series on the panel.

An insider spoke to Us Weekly about Minaj’s decision to leave, saying “She's okay with it. She had a great time but was only going to do one season anyway”.

The futures of other judges Keith Urban and Mariah Carey are also uncertain at the moment, with Us Weekly reporting that the next series will feature four completely new faces on the panel, in an attempt to counter the steadily decline in ratings.

Minaj and co-judge Carey made headlines throughout this year’s series, with on and off air bickering between the pair, along with an ongoing twitter feud.
