Virgin Records will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a series of specially curated events this autumn.
'40 Years of disruptions’ will focus on the label’s success and impact over the last four decades through a series of events, including an exhibition, book, documentary, and compilation CD, as well as gigs in London throughout October.
The series of live shows will be taking place at Camden’s Koko throughout the month, with gigs expected to be announced from Virgin artists in the near future, whilst the exhibition in Mornington Crescent will bring together rare footage from the label’s controversial history.
Virgin Records was founded by Richard Branson in 1973, with Mike Oldfield’s ‘Tubular Bells’ becoming the first release on a label that has since hosted acts such as The Sex Pistols, Daft Punk, George Michael and Massive Attack.
More recently the label has been home to Emile Sande, David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia

Branson, who sold Virgin Records in 1992, commented on the label turning 40; “Virgin Records is where it all started for Virgin and 40 years later it's great to see we are still being innovative. This exciting series of events is the perfect way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Virgin Records and the artists, from Mike Oldfield to Emeli Sandé, who continue to disrupt the status quo."
