A Beatles guitar which was played by both John Lennon and George Harrison has been sold at auction for more than $400,000.
The custom-made instrument constructed in 1966 by VOX, was bought by an unidentified US buyer for $408,000 (£269,000) at a New York auction held in the Hard Rock Cafe on Times Square.
Julien’s Auctions, the company responsible for the sale, said the guitar had exceed it’s pre-sale estimates by $100,000, with the instrument originally valued at between $200,000 and $300,000 (£132,000 - £198,000).
Harrison played the guitar in a scene from Magical Mystery Tour in 1967, in which he played ‘I Am The Walrus’ on it.
Lennon used the guitar in the video for ‘Hello, Goodbye’ later the same year.
Lennon then gave the guitar as a 25th birthday present to Alexis ‘Magic Alex’ Mardas, a member of The Beatles’ inner circle.

Mardas sold the instrument on back in 2004.
The instrument was briefly on public display in London earlier this month before the sale.
