Angel Haze and AlunaGeorge were forced to cancel their appearances at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend yesterday following disruptions to their flights to Londonderry.
An emergency landing at London’s Heathrow yesterday caused two runways to close at the airport which delayed a number of flights including the ones carrying the rapper and electro duo.
It was thought Rudimental would also be unable to make it, but they managed to arrive just in time. They told the crowd: “We had some problems at the airport. We left all our equipment in London but we’re still here,” before they launched into ‘Not Giving In’.
BBC Radio 1 released a statement which said: “Unfortunately due to the travel disruption affecting Heathrow we’ve had to cance; a few performances but we’ve still got an exciting line-up for out audiences.”
Yesterday saw Robbie Williams put in a surprise appearance to perform ‘Goin’ Crazy’ with Dizzee Rascal, and has perhaps forgiven the station for snubbing him by omitting ‘Candy’ from their playlist last year.
AlunaGeorge were one of the acts forced to cancel their slots
Calvin Harris headlined last night (May 24) with Biffy Clyro headline tonight and Bruno Mars closing the event tomorrow night.
