British actor Tom Hardy is reportedly the surprise choice to play Sir Elton John in the forthcoming musical biopic, Rocketman.
The legendary singer-songwriter is acting as executive producer on the biopic which is being made by his very own film company, Rocket Pictures and will be directed by TV ad veteran Michael Gracey.
Drew McWeeney of HitFX said: "It’s an intriguing possibility. What I find most compelling about it is that Hardy seems like a guy who embodies a certain form of physical machismo, but who challenges that appearance at every turn."
Hardy is best-known for his brilliant performance as supersized villian Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, but it's yet to be confirmed if he is even interested in playing Sir Elton.

Elton John has a busy summer ahead of him after being added to this summer's Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park and will headline a huge gig in Central London on 12 July, 2013 as well as appearing at Bestival 2013.
Speaking to The Guardian of his Bestival performance, he said, "I haven't played any of the major festivals in the UK in recent years, so when the opportunity to play Bestival came up I was very interested.
"Bestival seems to be more of a people's festival, not too big, and very friendly - I like the idea of that."
