Adele, Mumford & Sons and Muse were all among the artists who lead the way in the UK smashing records for album sales in 2012.
The BPI has revealed that British album sales accounted for 13.3% of the global market share last year, the highest on record ever.
The biggest seller was Adele, who took the top spot for the second consecutive year with 21 - clocking up 21 million sales to date.
One Direction took both second and third place with Up All Night and Take Me Home, while other appearances in the chart are from the likes of Muse, Mumford & Sons, Led Zeppelin and Emeli Sande.
