Arcade Fire have revealed that frontman Win Butler will be joining The Rolling Stones on stage in Montreal this Sunday (9 June).

The news was revealed at 5:01PM GMT today via the band's twitter, which simply said: "Win Butler + @RollingStones + Montreal #specialguest #Stones50."

Butler becomes the latest addition to the list of special guests that have joined the legendary rockers on their US tour, as Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow and Dave Grohl have made appearances in recent months.

Arcade Fire are reportedly working on their fourth album, a follow up to 2010's 'The Suburbs', which is due out at the end of the year.

The Rolling Stones recently made headlines after reportedly banning The BBC from broadcasting footage from their headline performance at Glastonbury at the end of the month.

A source close to the band spoke of frontman Mick Jagger's nerves about the headline slot, telling The Independent: "Mick agreed to do Glastonbury for the fans who are there, he didn't sign up for a TV show."

Glastonbury Festival takes place between 26 - 30 June 2013, with Arctic Monkeys and Mumford & Sons also topping the bill.
